In its first season as a full member of the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC), The Lincoln University (MO) football program has snapped a 42-game losing streak on its homecoming, with a 40-14 win over a different Lincoln University (CA), as the Division II HBCU football squad gets its first win since 2019 in the fifth game under first-year head coach Moses Harper.

The last win for the Blue Tigers of Lincoln (MO) was on Oct. 19, 2019, when they defeated Northeastern State, 27-9, at home in Jefferson City, MO. Since then, Lincoln had dropped 42 straight games before beating Lincoln (CA) at homecoming.

Founded in 1866 by members of the 62nd and 65th United States Colored Infantries, Lincoln University is a public, 1890 land-grant HBCU in Jefferson City, Missouri. This is the 93rd season of HBCU football at Lincoln as the Blue Tigers first fielded a team in 1920 and played every year until 1943 when Lincoln took a year off due to World War II. LU then played each season from 1944-1989 before the football program was disbanded. The program was brought back in 2000 where they were a full member of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) for 26 years (overall).

The Blue Tigers were an associate member of the GLVC from 2014-18, and have played in five different conferences in their 92-year history. Lincoln played as an independent in 2023 and went 0-11 before becoming a full member of the GLVC to start the 2024 season.

Lincoln (MO) almost tasted victory in week 4 as it went into halftime with a 10-7 lead over Southwest Baptist, only to see the Bearcats score 10 points in the third quarter and hold on for a 17-13 win.

HBCU football Lincoln University homecoming

Week 5 was a different story for the Blue Tigers. The Lincoln (MO) football team scored on offense, defense, and special teams in its first win since 2019.

Jareese Howard broke free for an 18-yard touchdown run after the Lincoln (CA) Oaklanders shanked a punt midway through the first quarter. On their next drive, Lincoln’s (MO) Donte Moore intercepted a pass at the three-yard line and ran it back to the house for a 97-yard touchdown that put Lincoln (MO) on top 14-0.

The Blue Tigers took a 21-6 lead into the half and never looked back. The Blue Tiger defense totaled six tackles for loss and four sacks and the Blue Tigers rushed for 167 yards as a team to win for the first time since beating Northeastern State, which was also Lincoln’s (MO) homecoming game.

Controversy between an HBCU and its alumni association has led to a dramatic course of action. Lincoln University of Missouri cut ties with its national alumni association in early June.

A letter from Lincoln’s Board of Curators dated June 10 states the board has “concerns about the finances, management, and options of the Lincoln University of Missouri National Alumni Association.” The letter says that the suspension is immediate and the alumni association will not be allowed to use the school’s name, logo or emblems. The letter further states that the decision will not impact individual alumni chapters. As an additional measure the school also laid out plans to create an alumni council made up of representatives from each chapter.

The Lincoln Board of Curators lays out the case of what has been a turbulent relationship over the past three years between the HBCU and its national alumni association.

The letter claims that in order to become affiliated with the school again, the LUAA must:

  • Have an independent CPA perform an audit of the association for its two most recent fiscal years and submit it to the university no later than Sept. 1.
  • Create an independent mailing address no later than July 1.
  • Create an independent financial management system outside of the university to receive payments. and donations online no later than July 1.
  • Immediately begin acting as a 501(c)3 organization.
  • Not “publicly disparage” the University or its representatives.

LANGSTON — Anthony Roy scored 23 points to lead No. 1 seed Langston University past ninth-seeded Ave Maria (Fla.) 91-61 on Saturday night at the C.F. Gayles Field House. The top-seeded Lions advance to the NAIA Round of 16 for the second straight year and will play No. 12 seed LSU-Shreveport on Friday, March 22 at 1 p.m.

“Ave Maria is a very good team and they were a tough matchup for us,” Langston University head coach Chris Wright noted. “We got down nine in the first half and our guys didn’t panic. We stayed the course and found a way to continue to get stops in the second half.”

Tied at 48-48 in the second half, Langston went on a 19-5 scoring run to seize control at 67-53 at the 8:10 mark. Ave Maria trimmed Langston’s lead to 13 points with 6:42 left when the Lions defense turned up the heat by not allowing another point from the Gyrenes until the 1:44 mark with Langston ahead 84-57.

Roy finished with 23 on nine-of-16 shooting and D’Monte Brown added 12 points and 11 boards. Cortez Mosley and Toru Dean rounded out the double-digit scorers with 11 and 10 points apiece.

Collectively, Langston hit 50 percent (35-of-70) from the field and held Ave Maria to 40 percent (20-of-50) shooting on the night. The Lions outscored the Gyrenes 19-0 on points off turnovers, 16-4 in second chance points, 32-17 in bench points and 48-24 in points in the paint.

“It’s always special to make it to Kansas City,” Wright said. “I’m excited for our guys and look forward to continue to play for a national championship.”

Alumni and students at Missouri-based HBCU, Lincoln University, are calling for the removal of its president in the wake of the death of Dr. Antoinette “Bonnie” Candia-Bailey.

Candia-Bailey, VP for Student Affairs at Lincoln University, died earlier this week due to suicide, according to HBCU Buzz. That publication’s sources attributed her death to “bullying and severe mistreatment.”

The Lincoln, MO-based HBCU released a statement on Thursday regarding Candia-Bailey’s passing:

The Lincoln University community is mourning the loss of beloved alum and leader Dr. Antoinette “Bonnie” Candia-Bailey.

Dr. Bailey passed away earlier this week. She was a gifted colleague and always a passionate advocate for Lincoln University, HBCUs and other causes in which she believed.

Dr. Bailey had many friends in the Lincoln University community. As a Blue Tiger community, we grieve with them and send our deepest condolences to Dr. Bailey’s family.

Lincoln University President Dr. John Moseley is being asked to step down from his position in the wake of Candia-Bailey’s passing by the National Alumni Association. According to the HBCU Buzz unnamed sources, Candia-Bailey was left “unsupported, disregarded, and abused after countless attempts to speak out on the bullying and harassment she experienced in her role from President Moseley.”

The report also cited a letter in which the deceased stated being stigmatized and bullied by the president and other leadership officials after disclosing she was dealing with mental illness.

Moseley, who is white, became the university’s president in 2022 after previously serving as its director of athletics and head basketball coach. Moseley has served as an assistant coach at North Carolina Central University under LeVelle Moton and at Winston-Salem State University under Bobby Collins before coming to LUMO in 2014.

NAA President Sherman Bonds calls for Moseley’s removal by the Board of Curators.

“…I find myself standing in the state of hopelessness,” Bonds wrote in his letter. “Therefore, my appeal to you and the Board of Curators is to find a resolution that restores the consciousness of peace and healing. As President of the Lincoln University (National) Alumni Association, I have become compelled to demand a change in the Office of Presidency of the University effective immediately.”

KRCG, a local media outlet, has obtained emails from Candia-Bailey, sent on the day she took her own life. She wrote that she was “intentionally harassed and bullied” and that after receiving a poor evaluation, when she asked for help, Moseley “ignored requests (failing to respond to emails), or when face-to-face, danced around the topic.”

Update: Dr. Moseley volunteered to be placed on paid leave while a third party reviews personnel issues and concerns

HBCU homecoming season has ended and alumni and students packed their stadiums to support their schools. Tuskegee, Jackson State, Alabama A&M, Norfolk State and Florida A&M lead all HBCUs in homecoming football game attendance, but many schools experienced great turnouts.

Jackson State leads the SWAC with nearly 30k. That’s an impressive number, but it is a significant drop from its 2022 number. Norfolk State got a slight bump as it led the MEAC. North Carolina A&T got another sellout it’s first season in the CAA.

Here are the numbers of attendance at each HBCU homecoming game. All numbers were taken from official box scores from each school’s athletic website.

INDIANAPOLIS — The Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) announced on Thursday that Lincoln University has been admitted to the Conference for full-time membership, following a unanimous vote of approval by the GLVC Council of Presidents on January 23.

“The GLVC Council of Presidents is pleased to unanimously endorse the recommendation from the league’s faculty athletics representatives to accept Lincoln University as our15th member,” said Dr. Sue Thomas, Truman State University President and Chair of the GLVC Council of Presidents. “Throughout the evaluation process, our institutional representatives were impressed with Lincoln’s enthusiasm, engagement, and strategic focus for the future. We welcome the Blue Tigers to the GLVC family.”

Lincoln will officially become the 15th GLVC member upon receipt of initiation fees, entitling the institution to voting privileges, and will begin regular season competition and be eligible for GLVC Championships in 2024-25.

“The addition of Lincoln University as the league’s first HBCU institution is a historic moment in the almost 45-year history of the Great Lakes Valley Conference,” said GLVC Commissioner Jim Naumovich. “President Dr. John Moseley and Vice President for Athletics Dr. Kevin Wilson, along with their leadership team, have generated a great deal of excitement and momentum about the future direction of the institution and the Blue Tigers intercollegiate athletic program, and we share in the enthusiasm that has been created with their move to the GLVC.”

Founded in 1866 by members of the 62nd and 65th United States Colored Infantries, Lincoln is a public, historically black, 1890 land-grant institution committed to providing excellent undergraduate and graduate degree programs to a diverse student population. Located in Jefferson City, Mo., Lincoln offers educational opportunities through teaching, research, and extension services while cultivating a nurturing, student-centered environment.

The Blue Tigers currently compete in NCAA Division II and have been a member of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) since 2010. Dating back to its first football game in 1920, Lincoln has a long and proud tradition of participation in collegiate athletics, as well as a history of national success. Most notably, Lincoln’s women’s track & field team has won 14 NCAA Division II National Championships in the past 20 years and has combined with the men’s team to win 14 MIAA Championships.

Despite being a full member of the MIAA, the Blue Tigers are no stranger to the GLVC, as Lincoln was a GLVC associate member in the sport of football from 2014-18.

“This is a significant day for the future of Lincoln University,” said Lincoln President Dr. John Moseley. “This puts us in a position athletically where we’ve leveled the playing field by realigning ourselves with others of similar size and similar fiscal commitment. This will also give us the opportunity to compete and recruit in areas where Lincoln already has a large alumni base.”

In addition to transitioning into the GLVC, the university announced that it will add three sports programs: baseball, men’s soccer, and women’s soccer. With its three new teams, the Blue Tigers will now sponsor 14 athletic programs, which also include the following sports: men’s and women’s basketball, women’s cross country, football, men’s and women’s golf, softball, men’s and women’s indoor track & field, and men’s and women’s outdoor track & field.

“Commissioner Naumovich, his stellar team, and the evaluation committee were overwhelmingly encouraging throughout the entire process,” said Lincoln VP for Advancement, Athletics, & Campus Recreation Dr. Kevin Wilson. “On behalf of our dedicated student-athletes, faculty, staff, alumni, and administration, we are humbled to become the 15th member of such a competitive conference. Our shared values and mission truly result in a match made in the Midwest. We look forward to all of our athletic programs calling the GLVC home in 2024.”

The GLVC is currently one of the largest NCAA Division II conferences in the country, featuring 13 schools and 24 sports. The Conference was established in 1978 and made up of six schools in Indiana, Kentucky, and Ohio, but has moved westward to include four Illinois schools and eight Missouri schools among its membership. The current members of the GLVC are: Drury University (Springfield, Mo.), University of Illinois Springfield (Springfield, Ill.), University of Indianapolis (Indianapolis, Ind.), Lewis University (Romeoville, Ill.), Maryville University (St. Louis, Mo.), McKendree University (Lebanon, Ill.), Missouri University of Science & Technology (Rolla, Mo.), University of Missouri-St. Louis (St. Louis, Mo.), Quincy University (Quincy, Ill.), Rockhurst University (Kansas City, Mo.), Southwest Baptist University (Bolivar, Mo.), Truman State University (Kirksville, Mo.), and William Jewell College (Liberty, Mo).

The GLVC last expanded in 2018 with the addition of Southwest Baptist and Lindenwood University as its 15th and 16th members. However, Bellarmine University in 2019, as well as Lindenwood and charter member University of Southern Indiana in 2022 all resigned to reclassify to Division I, leaving current membership at 13 full-time institutions since the start of the 2022-23 academic year. Most recently, Upper Iowa University (Fayette, Iowa) was approved for membership in the GLVC, starting in the 2023-24 academic year, as the league’s 14th member.

Top HBCU performances: Offense

Two 300-yard passers – Isaiah Saddler of Texas College and Dion Golatt of Bowie State — had the top HBCU performances though in losses for their teams this week.

Saddler threw for 367 yards and four TDs but also had four interceptions in his team’s 55-24 loss to Langston. Golatt had two 14-yard TD passes, the only scores the CIAA champs scored in a 40-12 loss at Saginaw Valley State.

Grambling State’s Quaterius Hawkins and Jackson State’s Shedeur Sanders had big days topping 275 passing yards and throwing multiple touchdowns while leading their teams to victories.

Hawkins had 293 passing yards and three TDs without an interception in leading the G-Men and new head coach Hue Jackson to their first victory, 47-21 over Northwestern State. Sanders was an efficient 30 of 44 without a pick as JSU survived a battle with Tennessee State, 16-3.

The 90-yard TD pass from Norfolk State QB Otto Kuhns to DaQuan Felton was the Spartans’ only score in a 63-7 loss to James Madison and the longest scoring reception this week.

Virginia Union sophomore Jada Byers and Virginia State senior Darius Hagans were the two 200-yard rushers this week. Both were instrumental in their teams’ victories.

Byers’ 29 carries for 283 rushing yards and three TDs led all rushers this week and was key in VUU’s 45-40 upset win at AFCA Div. No. 3 Valdosta State. Byers had 22-, 50- and 52-yard TD runs in the second half. Byers, who also had a first-half TD reception, is second in NCAA Div. II average 190.5 yards per game through two games.

Hagans’ 86-yard TD run contributed to his whopping average of 11.9 yards per carry in the Trojans’ 28-7 win over Bluefield State. It was the first win of the Dr. Henry Frazier III era at VSU.

T. J. Hookfin of Texas College had two of the four TD receptions from QB Isaiah Saddler. He averaged 46.7 yards on his four receptions and 57.5 yards on his two TD catches

Lincoln Mo.’s Aderius Ealy had all three TDs for the Blue Tigers in their 58-20 loss to Northwest Missouri State.

Top HBCU performances: Defense

Chowan linebacker Montre Moore, Jackson State linebacker Nyles Gaddy, Prairie View A&M LB Gerald Smith and SC State LB B. J. Davis had the top HBCU performances on defense.

Moore led the Indians with 16 tackles in a 23-21 loss to Tusculum.

Gaddy posted four of JSU’s eight sacks vs. Tennessee State in a 16-3 win for the Tigers.

Smith and Davis both had two picks in their games. Smith and the Panthers fell to Abilene Christian, 21-13. Davis had his two picks as SCSU beat Bethune-Cookman, 33-9. He returned the second theft 59 yards for the Bulldogs’ final touchdown.

The seven current and former HBCU athletes competing at the World Track & Field Championships (July 15-24) in Eugene, Oregon have not made it into the finals of any event.

The last hope is former Johnson C. Smith hurdler Danielle Williams. The highly decorated and former world 100 meter hurdles world champion (2015) is competing for her home country Jamaica. She competes in the first round of her event at 11:20 p.m. (ET) on Saturday. The semifinals (8:10 p.m. ET) and finals (10 p.m. ET) are set for Sunday, the final day of competition.

North Carolina A&T freshman Nzubechi Grace Nwokocha of Nigeria, finished second in 11.16 seconds in her first round women’s 100 meters heat Saturday. She advanced to the semifinals.

Nwokocha ran 11.16 again Sunday. She finished behind Shericka Jackson (10.84), Dina Asher-Smith (10.89) and Twanisha Terry (11.04) in the semifinals. Her time was the 16th best time in the field and did not earn a spot in the finals.

Nwokocha then ran in the first round of the 200 meters on Monday. She ran 22.61 to finish third and move thru to Tuesday’s semifinals. Howard’s Jessika Gbai, running for Ivory Coast, finished fifth in her first round 200 meters Monday heat in 22.89. She also made the semis. In the semis, Nowkocha’s ran 22.49 for fifth, just ahead of Gbai, sixth in 22.84. Neither advanced to the finals.

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — The Lincoln Athletic Department announced on Monday (Nov. 29) that Jermaine Gales will be the next head coach of the Blue Tiger football program.

“Coach Gales is the right leader to move LU Football forward,” said Kevin Wilson, Vice President of Advancement, Athletics, and Campus Recreation. “Despite limited resources, he’s recruited high-level student-athletes who became alumni and productive citizens, maximized talent to achieve what others thought to be improbable, and engineered successful programs. I look forward to celebrating many milestones with Coach Gales at the helm.”

Gales, who has nearly 20 years of experience as an assistant coach at the NCAA Division I and Division II levels, has established a proven track record of building and developing successful programs. Gales was hired in November of 2020 as the Associate Head Coach, Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks Coach at Bluefield State, an HBCU that had discontinued its football program in 1981. This past fall, in the Big Blue’s first football season in 40 years, Gales helped lead the program to a 4-3 record.

“I am beyond excited about joining the Ambush,” Gales said. “The opportunity to impact the lives of young men as a head football coach has been a dream of mine since blowing my whistle for the first time.  This is an opportunity to build something special and do something that has never been done before, in a community like Jefferson City, with an athletic director and president who are committed to developing our young men. I couldn’t be more excited to become the leader of the Blue Tigers. My family and I look forward to sharing the journey with the Lincoln University community, alumni, and fans.”

Before building the program at Bluefield State, Gales spent two seasons at Arkansas-Pine Bluff, where, as the offensive coordinator, he took a team that hadn’t won more than two games in a season since 2014 and helped lead it to a winning record in 2019. That season, Gales directed an offense that averaged 443.4 yards per game, the third-most in the Southwestern Athletic Conference and the 17th-most in NCAA Division I FCS. In his first year with the team in 2018, Gales devised an offense that ranked third in the SWAC with 423.5 yards per game, an improvement of over 100 yards per contest from the previous season.

In 2016 and 2017, Gales was the wide receivers coach at North Carolina Central and helped the Eagles win 17 games in that span. In 2016, Gales directed a receiving corps that scored 19 touchdowns, finished 18th in the FCS in yards per completion. The Eagles went undefeated in conference play that season and played in the Air Force Reserve Celebration Bowl. NCCU again posted a winning record in 2017 and ranked fourth in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference in total offense, with Jacen Murphy leading the league in receptions per game while finishing third in total receiving yards.

Gales worked as the wide receivers coach at Mars Hill from 2006-09 and again from 2013-15. In between those stints, Gales served as the offensive coordinator and coached the running backs and receivers at Saint Augustine’s, helping the program twice break season records for points per game. In 2010, Gales helped lead the Falcons to a win in the Pioneer Bowl, marking the first postseason victory in program history.

Gales graduated from Southern Arkansas in 2002 with a bachelor of science degree in biology and a minor in human performance and recreation. He later earned a master of education degree in kinesiology from SAU in 2005.

Before entering the coaching ranks, Gales spent two seasons playing at Mt. San Antonio as a receiver before transferring to Southern Arkansas, where he helped the Muleriders win the 1997 Gulf South Conference championship. Gales served as an assistant at SAU from 2003-05, helping develop the program’s receivers.

Gales and his wife, Kizzy, have been married for 17 years and have six children: Devaughn, Kassidy, Braeden, Tailagua, Ettastajia, and Darius. Gales also has three grandchildren: Jhase, De’Mauri and Ava.

What Others Are Saying About Coach Jermaine Gales

“Jermaine was a key component of us building a championship caliber program and culture at North Carolina Central. His Offensive Coordinator & Associate Head Coach experience helped me tremendously. He has always put the student-athlete first and looked at programs from a 10,000 feet perspective. I’m excited to see his vision, leadership, and exciting offense for Lincoln.” — Jerry Mack, Running Backs Coach, Tennessee

“Coach Gales’ energy, coaching success, and passion for turning a program around makes him an excellent choice to lead the Lincoln University football program. Across the country, he is recognized as one of the top up-and-coming coaches in the nation. Gales is someone who is a relentless, proven recruiter who has seen remarkable success. On top of that, he places a high value on culture and developing student-athletes.” — Christopher Robinson, Athletic Director, Arkansas-Pine Bluff

Jermaine and I have been friends for well over a decade, and it was a blessing to have him as our offensive coordinator & associate head coach. Outside of his proven skills as an OC, we could not have accomplished the things we did here. He was invaluable to me as a confidant in my first year as a head coach and will always be a great friend! Coach Gales truly cares about the development of young men off the field as well as on it. Lincoln University is getting a great one and he is ready for this opportunity! It is long overdue!”  – Tony Coaxum, Head Coach, Bluefield State

“There is no doubt Coach Gales will be successful and amazing as the leader of the Lincoln football program. He is a relentless recruiter and has an outstanding offensive mind that will bring relevance and credibility to this football program. The future looks very bright.” — Toriano Morgan, Head Coach, Edward Waters

“Jermaine Gales is an excellent football coach and a great leader of men. Lincoln University is fortunate to have a man of Coach Gales’ character to lead their football program. Lincoln’s program will improve the moment he steps foot on campus.” — Tim Clifton, Head Coach, Mars Hill

Milwaukee Bucks co-owner Dr. Valerie Daniels-Carter is a proud graduate of Lincoln University of Missouri who knows that nurturing your passions can lead to big things.

At a young age growing up on 44th and Hampton Streets on Milwaukee’s north side, she had a love for entrepreneurship, sports and her community. All have paid off handsomely for her.

The payoffs

In business, she now helms a four-state conglomerate of over 100 multi-brand restaurant franchises — Burger Kings, Pizza Huts, Aunti Anne’s Soft Pretzels, Captain D’s Seafood, among others — that is amongst the largest in the nation. Hers is the largest female-owned franchise organization in the U. S.

NBA Hall of Fame big man Shaquille O’Neal, a titan of his own in more ways than one, is one of her business partners.

In sports, she owns a minority stake in the Milwaukee Bucks franchise, the 2021 Eastern Division champion now playing in the NBA Finals vs. the Phoenix Suns. Daniels-Carter also sits on the board of directors of her beloved Green Bay Packers, her state’s NFL franchise.

Her community and philanthropic efforts have run even deeper, reaching from her Midwestern roots into Africa. She has developed a host of community youth and empowerment centers, built housing, educational, art and health complexes both here and on the continent. She has been a stalwart in her Christian community. Daniels-Carter is widely known as a motivational speaker, life coach and humanitarian.

She has volunteered for and chaired numerous organizations and boards and in 2017 was appointed the first female African-American president of the American Automobile Association (AAA) with its 60 million members. She was inducted into the National Black College Alumni Hall of Fame in 2019.

“I’m God-made,” she told a local Milwaukee TV station, WTMJ-4. “I have been blessed to work all of my life. When I started this journey, I had a mission, and I have been able to achieve it.”

Valerie Daniels-Carter’s Roots

Growing up Valerie Daniels in Milwaukee in a family with seven other children created a lot of opportunities. She took advantage of one to start her first business shepherding kids safely to school for a nominal fee.

“I told them (parents) there are dogs on the path and lots of other things their kids might be afraid of and I could make sure they got back and forth safely,” she told Black Enterprise Magazine earlier this year. “Thankfully, no one every tested the waters to see if I really could fight because I coundn’t.”

It was also in her youth that she developed a passion for sports, playing on the high school basketball team at nearby Rufus King High School before going on to Lincoln, an Historically Black College in Jefferson City, Missouri.

Lincoln helped grow all those youthful passions and helped her and them grow into the fruitful outlets they have become. At Lincoln, she graduated with a bachelor of science degree in business administration in 1978. She also played a starring role on the Lady Blue Tigers basketball team. So outstanding was her prowess as a hooper that she was drafted by the Milwaukee Does of the fledgling Women’s Professional Basketball League (WPBL).

“Sports, I love it,” she told the local TV station. “I have been basketball since I was a young girl. So from the Does to the Bucks, here I am,” she said.

A focus on business

But basketball, at least then, was not in her future. Just after graduating from college, she quickly embarked on a series of jobs that educated her on the finer points of banking, accounting, auditing and finance. After only a short time, Daniels-Carter joined with her bother, attorney John Daniels, to look for business opportunities.

“I really wanted to focus on things that would be long term,” she told Black Enterprise in an earlier interview. They settled on franchising, a subject she studied profusely. After several moves and a hefty loan, they opened their first Burger King restaurant in 1984.

As the owner and operator of V&J Holding Co. Inc., she now sits at the vortex of a collection of some 38 Burger King stores including 12 in her native Milwaukee area and 26 more in Detroit. Through other subsidiaries such as V&J Foods and V&J United Enterprises 60 Pizza Hut locations in New York and western Massachusetts are operated. The company has over 3,000 employees.

Bucks for the Bucks

In 2014, Daniels-Carter helped form Partners for Community Impact, a group of diverse community investors that purchased a minority stake in the Bucks. They joined a majority group that purchased the team that year. She routinely sends messages to the team before each game.

“I am so excited about this season,” she said of her team that trails the Suns 2-0 in their best of seven NBA Finals series. Game Three is scheduled for Sunday night in Milwaukee. The Bucks are hoping for their first title since the 1971 team that featured Norfolk State’s Bobby Dandridge.

“We are going to take it one game at a time. We are going to press forward one day at a time and we are going to bring a championship home to Milwaukee.”

Sai Witt, who scored 19 points to go with nine rebounds, hit a layup with just under 18 minutes remaining to put the Blue Tigers ahead, 50-33. He was one of five LU players to finish in double figures, with Yaniel Vidal coming off the bench to lead the team with 20 points.

A 13-0 run by the Mules cut the Blue Tiger lead down to four with 12:10 to play, and Central Missouri would ultimately cut the lead down to 59-58 with 8:39 remaining. Lincoln never allowed the Mules to take a second half lead, however, as Quinton Drayton hit a jumper to end the scoring run, and later made a layup to put Lincoln back up by five. Drayton ended the day with 14 points.

Lincoln made seven free throws down the stretch to clinch the win and open the season with a 1-0 record both overall and in MIAA play.

Cameron Potts added 12 points and Ni’Sean Rigmaiden scored 11, while Arash Yaqubi rounded out the LU starters with three points on the afternoon. DaMani Jarrett added four points and three rebounds off the bench, and Mekhi Kimble finished with two points while Jordan Notch chipped in a free throw.

The NBA playoffs are back and Chris Paul’s HBCU Sneaker Tour rolls on. Paul wore a pair of custom Lincoln Blue Tigers shoes for the Oklahoma City versus Houston Rockets game five matchup.

The NBA playoffs had been postponed for the majority of the week as players refused to play after the Jacob Blake shooting in Wisconsin. Saturday marked the return of action and a pivotal game for Paul’s Thunder team.

[inArticle]

HBCU fans were interested in a different kind of game on Saturday. The HBCU Sneaker Tour has in essence turned into a game of HBCU roulette. No school ever knows when or if it will get the spotlight of Chris Paul’s feet. One has to watch the game very carefully or scour the internet to determine who was the go to school for the night.

In the HBCU universe, there is more than one Lincoln and you have to know your Missouri from Pennsylvania. It was a faux pas that at least one national outlet had to correct via a deleted tweet. But getting it right in the end is what ultimately counts.

Paul also wrote the names of actor Chadwick Boseman and former NBA player Clifford Robinson on his shoes. Both men passed away unexpectedly over the weekend.

Lincoln (MO) is a Division II HBCU located in Jefferson City, Missouri. The Blue Tigers are members of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association. The Blue Tigers joined the conference in 2010.

The nod to Lincoln was appreciated by fans and the university. The school ackowledged the look during the first half of Saturday night’s game.

“Chris Paul @CP3 we Appreciate you! Thank You for reppin’ the Blue Tigers in your game today & at a time when we remember the life of Chadwick Boseman,” the school tweeted.

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — Lincoln University will discontinue its women’s bowling program, Director of Athletics John Moseley announced on Thursday (June 11).

“The COVID-19 pandemic has placed substantial financial stress on many universities across the country, including Lincoln, and that has required many athletic departments to make difficult decisions in regards to funding its sports programs,” Moseley said. “After a comprehensive review of our programs, it became clear that it would be impossible to continue fiscally supporting bowling at a level that would allow our student-athletes to be competitive against our peers in the NCAA.

[inArticle]

“Since its inception in 2015, the women’s bowling program has had the lowest total participation of the sports offered here at Lincoln.

Having said that, I know the student-athletes who represented Lincoln these past five years have done so with pride and class, and I appreciate their contributions to Lincoln athletics.

”The bowling program had not competed in an intercollegiate event since the 2019 MIAA Championship, and only one student-athlete on the team was currently eligible to compete this fall. The head bowling coach resigned this past spring, and the position has since remained vacant.

Lincoln will continue to offer 11 NCAA Division II athletic programs.

NEW ORLEANS — All-Americans for the 2020 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field season were announced on Tuesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

Normal policies dictate that All-America honors are awarded based on classifications of performance at the NCAA Championships.

Due to the cancellation of the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships, the Executive Committee adopted the following criteria:

  • Based on the posted startlist for the national championships announced by the NCAA, the following will be recognized as All-America for the 2020 indoor track & field season:
    • Individual events: ALL student-athletes listed on the startlist for the anticipated event.
    • Relay events: The four student-athletes per anticipated relay who produced the performance that was declared and accepted into their event.
  • There will not be a distinction of “first-team” or “second-team” to these recognitions.

A total of 716 honors were handed out to 117 different institutions on Tuesday.

Blue Tigers on the prowl

Division II HBCUs racked up a total of 48 All-American honors. For the men, Lincoln (Mo.) and Saint Augustine’s both walked away with more than 10 All-American honors. For the women, Lincoln (Mo.) dominated once again with 11 All-American honors. Both Fayetteville State and Saint Augustine’s were close behind with six honors each.
